Why it is famous

The white granite shrine on the Bhagīrathī at 3,100 m, near the submerged Bhagīratha Śilā where the king performed his penance.

📜 Pilgrimage history

Built by the Gorkha general Amar Singh Thapa in the early 18th century; the actual glacier source, Gaumukh, is 18 km further.
