⭐ Why it is famous
The northern Char Dhām, with a black śālagrāma Viṣṇu in padmāsana, the hot Tapt Kund springs, and Nīlkaṇṭh peak behind it.
📜 Pilgrimage history
Ādi Śaṅkara is said to have recovered the image from the Alaknanda in the 8th century; the Garhwal kings rebuilt the temple after avalanches.
