One of the 51 Śakti Pīṭhas, whose bāṅglā-style roof resembles a tortoise (kūrma-pṛṣṭha) — hence Kūrma Pīṭha.

Built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya; the state of Tripura takes its royal deity from here.
