⭐ Why it is famous
The famous Kal Garuḍa — a stone Garuḍa that is said to grow heavier as it is carried in procession, needing four bearers at the start and dozens by the end of the street. Here the Thāyār takes precedence over the Lord, giving the temple its name.
📜 Pilgrimage history
A Divya Deśam sung by Tirumaṅgai Āḻvār, who is said to have been initiated here. The Chola-period temple has eleven vimānas and a large Nāyaka-era maṇḍapa complex.
