Why it is famous

A Divya Deśam east of Madurai where Viṣṇu is said to have taken the Mohinī form at the churning of the ocean; the temple keeps a rare Sudarśana cakra shrine with sixteen arms.

Praised by Tirumaṅgai Āḻvār and Nammāḻvār, the shrine has Pāṇḍya and Nāyaka additions; the Cittirai festival links it to the Aḻagar procession into Madurai.
