Nammāḻvār's tamarind tree, root of the Tamil Veda
⭐ Why it is famous
The birthplace shrine of Nammāḻvār, whose Tiruvāymoḻi is called the Tamil Veda. The ancient tamarind tree under which he sat in silence for sixteen years still stands in the temple, and the Garuḍa Sevai of the Nava Tirupati starts here.
📜 Pilgrimage history
One of the Nava Tirupati, the nine Viṣṇu temples of the Tāmraparṇī valley linked to the nine planets. Pāṇḍya and Nāyaka rulers built the prākāras; the Vaikāśi Viśākha festival carrying all nine Perumāḷs together is the region's largest.
