Nine Planets' Shed, Konark Sun Temple
The original Navagraha architrave from the Sun Temple's eastern doorway, sheltered in its own pavilion.
⭐ Why it is famous
This single carved slab, once fixed above the Konark Sun Temple's jagamohana doorway, depicts all nine grahas in their fully developed iconography and is now preserved by the ASI in a shed just outside the main complex. Since no separate Odisha shrine is documented specifically for Brihaspati, this stone — where Guru sits among the nine — anchors the Jupiter leg of the trail.
📜 Pilgrimage history
Navagraha panels were carved above doorways of Kalinga temples to ward off malefic planetary influence; Konark's example, dated to the 13th century, is considered the most completely developed of these in Odisha and was relocated to a protected shed after the jagamohana's upper structure became unsafe.
