Why it is famous

A Jyotirliṅga on Mandhata island in the Narmadā, whose outline is said to trace the syllable ॐ; Mamleshwar on the south bank shares the honour.

📜 Pilgrimage history

The temple has Paramāra-era work of the 10th–11th centuries; Ādi Śaṅkara is said to have met his guru Govindapāda in a cave here, marked by the new 108-ft Ekatmata statue.
