⭐ Why it is famous
The Bhasma Ārati at dawn, when the liṅga is bathed in sacred ash — the most striking daily ritual in any Indian temple.
📜 Pilgrimage history
Ujjain (Avantikā) has been a Śaiva centre since the Mahājanapada age; the present temple was rebuilt by Ranoji Shinde in the 18th century after Iltutmish's raid. The Mahakal Lok corridor opened in 2022.
