⭐ Why it is famous
The Pañcaliṅga Darśana — five Śiva shrines of Talakadu worshipped in one day, held roughly once in twelve years when the Kāverī sand is cleared. The sand dunes that bury the town are tied to the curse of Alamelamma on the Mysore rulers.
📜 Pilgrimage history
Talakadu was a Ganga capital from the 4th century and later held by Cholas and Hoysalas. Vaidyanātheśvara, the largest surviving temple, is a Chola-Hoysala structure repeatedly excavated from the sand.
