⭐ Why it is famous
The northernmost and oldest of the Kaveri's three Ranga shrines — Ādi Ranga here, Madhya Ranga at Shivanasamudra, Antya Ranga at Srirangam. The reclining Ranganātha lies on Ādiśeṣa in a Hoysala-Vijayanagara hall.
📜 Pilgrimage history
Founded in 894 CE by the Ganga chieftain Tirumalaiah; expanded by the Hoysalas, Vijayanagara and the Wodeyars. Tipu Sultan continued the temple's grants even as his fort surrounded it.
