Why it is famous

The city is named after this Devī. The Navarātri Śāradā maṇḍapa and the Marnemi (Vijayadaśamī) procession are among coastal Karnataka's largest street festivals.

📜 Pilgrimage history

Built by the Alupa king Kundavarma in the 9th century at the instance of the Nātha yogis Matsyendranātha and Gorakhanātha, in memory of the princess Premaladevi who took saṁnyāsa as Maṅgaladevi.
