Chalukyan stone around a living spring tank

Why it is famous

A cluster of 6th–7th century Chalukyan shrines around the Viṣṇupuṣkariṇī, a spring tank of clear, constant water that pilgrims still bathe in before darśan.

📜 Pilgrimage history

The Mahakuta Pillar inscription of Maṅgaleśa (c. 601 CE) records Chalukyan gifts here; the site was an early experiment ground for both Nāgara and Drāviḍa temple forms, later perfected at Pattadakal.
