A Chola L-shaped Devī temple of the 10th century

⭐ Why it is famous

A rare L-shaped (Vimāna) plan with a Draviḍa sanctum for Kolaramma and a second for Saptamātṛkās, and Chola inscriptions of Rājendra Chola I on its walls. Devotees bring silver hundis of savings to be blessed here.

📜 Pilgrimage history

Built around 1012 CE in the Chola period and repaired under Vijayanagara, the temple gave the town its name. The Saptamātṛkā panel and the ancient Tamil and Kannada inscriptions make it an important record of the region's shift between dynasties.
