⭐ Why it is famous
The sanctum stands on a rock island midstream in the Nandini, reached by a short bridge. Kateel is the home of the celebrated Kateel Yakṣagāna troupes, whose all-night performances are offered as vows.
📜 Pilgrimage history
The sthala purāṇa tells of the sage Jābāli, the celestial cow Kāmadhenu's daughter Nandini turned river, and the demon Aruṇāsura slain by the Devī as a swarm of bees (Bhramarī). Worship here is recorded for well over a thousand years.
