Śrī Mañjunātha Temple, Kadri

Mañjunātha (Śiva) · Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada · Karnataka

A tenth-century bronze Lokeśvara above nine tanks

Why it is famous

The seated bronze Lokeśvara of 968 CE — among the finest early bronzes in India — and the nine spring-fed tanks on the hillside where pilgrims bathe before darśan.

📜 Pilgrimage history

Kadri began as a Buddhist Vajrayāna vihāra (Kadarikā Vihāra) and was absorbed into Śaiva worship; the Nātha Panth Jogimatha above the temple still installs its heads here. Alupa king Kundavarma's inscription dates the Lokeśvara bronze.
