Dodda Basavana Gudi (Bull Temple)
A 4.6 metre monolith Nandi in the heart of the city
⭐ Why it is famous
One of the largest Nandi monoliths in the world, carved from a single granite boulder, and the Kadalekai Parishe — a groundnut fair that fills the surrounding streets every November–December.
📜 Pilgrimage history
Attributed to Kempe Gowda I in the 16th century. Farmers whose groundnut crop was being trampled by a bull are said to have built the shrine, after which the raids stopped — the origin of the groundnut fair.
