⭐ Why it is famous
First of the twelve Jyotirliṅgas, destroyed and rebuilt seven times, standing on a shore with no land between it and Antarctica.
📜 Pilgrimage history
Plundered by Mahmud of Ghazni in 1026 and repeatedly after; the present Chalukya-style temple was completed in 1951 under Sardar Patel's initiative.
