⭐ Why it is famous

The lamp inside the sanctum flickers with no draught, marking Śiva as the air element. It is India's foremost place for Rāhu-Ketu and Kāla Sarpa doṣa pūjās.

📜 Pilgrimage history

Named for the spider (śrī), serpent (kāla) and elephant (hasti) who worshipped the liṅga. The Cholas and Krishnadevaraya built the gopurams; the 11th-century hundred-pillar hall survives.
